I'm going to count to one..One!
- I'm going to count to ten and then you choose, or I'll choose for you.
- Now, I am going to count to three, and when I say three you will wake up.
Are you anybody?
映画「雨に唄えば[Singin' in the Rain]」より。
- anybody は、主に否定文で「重要な人物、ひとかどの人物」という意味で使われることがある( (in negative sentences) an important person/(usually used with a negative or a question) a person of any importance)。
- She wasn't anybody before she got that job.
- If you're anybody, you'll receive an invitation.
- If you're anybody, you'll get an invitation.
- He isn't anybody in this town.
- 肯定文では somebody が同じような意味で使える(an important person/a person of greater importance than others)。

- The teacher convinced her that she could grow up to be somebody.
- He seems to be somebody in this town.
- Obviously she was somebody--a real presence in the room.
- She thinks she's really somebody in that car.
- a small-town girl who hopes to become a somebody someday
「重要でない人、影響力のない人」という意味に(a person of no importance, influence, or power)。
- He was a nobody in high school.
- I was a nothing and a nobody with everything to prove.
- She rose from being a nobody to become a superstar.
- Tired of feeling like a nobody, she decided to launch her own business
- この some/any の持つニュアンスは、something が「重要なもの、価値あるもの、特筆すべきもの」という意味を持つ( a person or thing that is important or worth noticing/ a remarkable or important thing or person/a thing that is thought to be important or worth taking notice of )のと共通している。
- She thinks she's really something ever since her promotion.
- That waterfall is really something, isn't it?
- He decided to go back to college and make something of himself. [=become successful]

- The President visiting our hotel - that would really be something.
- He is really something!
- This writer has something to say and she says it well.
Can't a girl get a word in edgewise?
映画「雨に唄えば[Singin' in the Rain]」より。
(If you can't get a word in edgewise it means that someone else is talking so much that you are not able to say anything)。
- "get a word in edgewise"=to get a chance to say something/to find an opportunity to say something/to succeed in entering a conversation or expressing one's opinion in spite of competition or opposition)
- I wanted to explain what had happened but I couldn't get a word in edgewise.
- Harold talked so much that nobody else could get a word in edgewise.
- Once George starts talking it's difficult to get a word in edgeways.
- When Mary starts talking, no one else can get a word in edgeways.

You might be trading that fiddle in for a harp.
映画「雨に唄えば[Singin' in the Rain]」より。
- 最初、trade という語で単に「交換する」という意味だと思ったのだけれど、調べてみたら "trade A in for B" "trade in A for B" の形で、「AをBのための下取りに出す」という意味があった(to give something such as a car to the person you are buying a new one from, as part of the payment/to sell something back to a business as part of your payment for something else)。
- He traded his old car in for a new model.
- We traded our car in for a newer model.
- Trade in your car and get $3,000 towards a new car!
意味は「下取り品、下取り取引」(a method of buying something by giving a used item as part of the payment for a new one; the used item itself)。
- the trade-in value of a car
- Do you have a trade-in?
- Are you going to give your Ford as a trade-in?
- The trade-in value is roughly $3000.
- Bring in your trade-in and receive $3,000 towards any new car on the lot.
- We got a good trade-in price for our old car.
- a trade-in dealer
What time do you get off?
たくさん意味がある "get off" には、「一日の仕事を終えて職場を出る」(to finish work and leave the place where you work at the end of the day/to leave work with permission, usually at the end of the day)という意味もある。"get off work" と言うことも。
- I usually get off at six o'clock.
- What time do you get off work?
- I get off early on Fridays.
- I got off work early last Thursday so I could see the parade.
- Could you get off work early tomorrow?
- How early can you get off this afternoon?
("somebody is done (with something)"=someone has finished doing or using something)
- I'll be done in a minute.
- I'm already done.
- As soon as I'm done, I'll give you a call.
- Are you done with this magazine?

- Turn out the light when you're done.
