（ディズニー実写映画の無計画なDVD化のなかでも、どうやら今回はなかなかいい感じのものに出会えたようだ。）
　現在DVDを買おうか迷っている映画「怪盗大旋風」"Never a dull moment"のカスタマー・レビューより。こんな短い文なのに、学習用の例文かよ！？というくらい辞書を引いてしまった。

  • "hit and miss" はhitするか、missするか…、つまり「行き当たりばったりの、無計画な、吉と出るか凶とでるかかわからない（carelessly; aimlessly; without plan or direction／if something is hit and miss, you cannot be certain of its quality because it is sometimes good and sometimes bad／done or occurring at random）」ってこと。"hit and miss approach" なら、「行き当たりばったりのやり方」。hit or missとも。
    • The campaign was rather a hit-and-miss affair.
    • There was no planning. It was just hit and miss.
    • We used a cheap printer, but the quality was a bit hit or miss.
    • Weather forecasting used to be a very hit-and-miss affair.
    • We handed out the free tickets hit or miss. Some people got one. Others got five or six.
    • Picking a remedy can be a bit hit-and-miss.
  • "live action"は、"live action film"＝「実写映画」という言い方がある。liveなactionだから実写ってめちゃくちゃそのままなんだけど、文章読んでる時は気付かなかった。
  • "luck out (on/in/onto...)"も成語。米口語（そもそもluckを動詞で使うのが米口語というふうに載っていた）で「運よく出くわす、うまくいく」などとなる。
    • He lucked out on an examination.（彼は運良く試験に合格した。）
    • Yeah, we really lucked out and got a parking space right in front.
    • I lucked out and found a wonderful woman.
