Japan is looking to a new wave of women athletes to help them achieve an ambitious target of more than 10 golds at the Olympics as they attempt to close the gap on regional rivals China and South Korea.

(日本は女性アスリートが見せる活躍に期待をよせている。日本が10個以上の金メダルを獲得し、中国、韓国といったアジアのライバル国に対抗していく力になることを。)
 アテネオリンピックに関するニュース記事より。まだ早い時期の記事だったので(女子マラソンなんかよりも前)、ここで出ているメダル予想は実際よりも低い数字。

  • "look to" なんか、簡単そうな表現なのに今まで知らなかった自分にびっくり。ここでは「〜を頼る、当てにする、期待する(rely on to do or provide something/hope or expect to do something )」という意味。あ、これってもしかして "look forward to〜" のイメージなのか・・?
    • I look to him for help.

    • She will look to you for help.
    • Universities are looking to expand their intakes.

    • They're looking to the new manager to make the company profitable.
