　英会話短期セミナーでbody idiomをやっていた際、「暗記する」＝by heartが出てきたので、by earというのが「暗譜して楽器を弾く」っていうのを見かけたんだけど、そうなの？と質問してみたら、意外な使い方を教えてくれた。この先やることが決まってなくて（週末の予定等）、どうする？って聞かれた時にこういうふうに答える使い方があるそうだ。結構一般的って言ってたよ。"it depends."みたいなことか。

• • I like to be spontaneous and play it by ear. （spontaneous：something that is spontaneous has not been planned or organized, but happens by itself, or because you suddenly feel you want to do it）
  • Let's play it by ear.
  • I'm not exactly sure what to do, but I'll play it by ear until I am really stuck.
  • We'll see what the weather's like and play it by ear.
• 今調べたら、play it by earには、即興でやる（＝extemporize）という意味もあるみたい。
