  • he acts as guide　※he guides me という言い方はしない
  • he's familiar with shizuoka　※人 is familiar with 物　or 物 is familiar to 人　私は「familiar to」というカタマリで覚えていたのでwithを使うのか！というのが新たな発見だった。ていうか、ほんとは基本？ (^^;
    • Your name is familiar to me.
    • He's familiar with English.
  • what's shizuoka famous for?
  • by my car という言い方はしない。by car か in my car
  • in two cars　※「by＋乗り物」は切り離せない関係。乗り物の前に語を挟むならinを使う。
  • how long did it take you to drive there?
  • a scalper（米）/tout（英）／ダフ屋
  • scam／詐欺、汚いやり口
  • scam artist／詐欺師
  • a con man／詐欺師　※conはconfidenceのこと。自分の詐欺に自信があることから。
  • countryside は (n) なので "my hometown is very countryside"という言い方はしない。"my hometown is very rural" "my hometown is IN the countryside" はok　※今回は他の人がきっかけだけれど、以前聞いた内容と同じ
  • hollow／中が詰まっていない　※パイプ状のものやボールなど
  • manual
  • an extra entertainment
  • there's a knack to it　※"need to find a knack of it" という言い方をしたら、こっちのほうが自然、と言われた。（参考：04/5/16）
  • get the hang of it 　※同上。もっと自然な言い方
  • compose
  • Are you musical?　※この場合のmusicalには「音楽好きの／音楽に優れた」という意味が。
  • rekindle／以前やっていてやめたものにもう一度興味を持つ、再熱する、〜に再び火をつかる
  • controversial／giving rise or likely to give rise to public disagreement　自分で言ったけど、なじみの薄いこの単語がよく浮かんだなあ。
  • politically correct (PC / POCO)／差別的でない、偏見的でない　←→politically incorrect
  • politic／思慮分別のある
  • disabled／身体障害者、身体障害のある（handicappedよりも公式に使われる語）→よりPCな語として challenged
