　英会話レッスンにて。先生が、就職先を探しているというクラスメイトの現在の状況をたずねると「今、（候補の職場の）最後のツメを確認しているところ」といった内容の回答。その流れでこの表現を教わった。

• このthe final touchesという言い方はよくするそうで、ルームメイトと出かける時、「もう行くよ！」と声をかけるとお化粧中の彼女が"I'm doing the final touches!"と答えたりする、とのこと。the final touches=the last detailとの説明。お化粧の例なら「最後の仕上げ」といった感じ。
• 辞書を引いてみると、the finishing touchesとも言うとある。（finishing touches=a final adjustment of something; some effort or action that completes something）
  • Norm is in his workshop putting the finishing touches on his latest project.
  • Emma was putting the finishing touches to the cake.
  • The band is putting the finishing touches on their third album.
