I guess I lucked out.

　NHKラジオ英会話「レッツスピーク」のベストセレクション『NHKラジオ英会話レッツスピークベストセレクション (NHK CD BOOK)』より。レンタルカーを借りに行ったら、コンパクトカーを借りようと思ったのになかったからスポーツカーにグレードアップしてもらえた、というエピソードで。

  • luck out＝「幸運に恵まれる」（to be fortunate; to strike it lucky／to be in an unusually good situation／achieve success or advantage by good luck）。私は今までluckを動詞として使ったことはなかったのだけれど、便利な言い回しだなと思った。米口語。
    • Yeah, we really lucked out and got a parking space right in front.
    • The US economy lucked out for most of the decade.
    • I really lucked out when I ordered the duck. It's excellent.
    • I didn't luck out at all. I rarely make the right choice.
    • She lucked out, investing at just the right time to make a lot of money.
    • I lucked out and found a wonderful woman.
