　先日行った松本城の写真をfacebookにアップしたら知り合いのイギリス人からこのコメントが。whereaboutsという単語を初めて聞いた。

  • whereが「どこ」なのに対してwhereabout(s)は「どのへん」って感じか。
    • Whereabouts in Chicago do you live?
    • Whereabouts do you come from?
    • Whereabouts are you?
    • trying to find whereabouts in the world we were.
  • 名詞として使うと「（人の）居場所」や「（物の）ありか」という意味になる。
    • His whereabouts remain secret.
    • The police want to know the whereabouts of his brother.
    • He showed great reluctance to reveal his whereabouts.　※reluctance／気が進まないこと、不本意、不承不承　※show reluctance：ためらう
    • no clue as to his whereabouts.
