SHERLOCK

（なんでもっと多くの同胞が殺人をしないのかと驚きだよ。）
　BBCドラマ「シャーロック」エピソード1 "A Study in Pink" より（※ネタバレあり）。殺された女性の携帯電話を持つタクシー運転手は、ホームズを人気のない大学へと連れて行く。男は、タクシードライバーっていうのは、殺人するのに最適な閑静な場所をよく知っているものだよ、なぜもっと多くのタクシードライバーが殺人をしないのかわからないね、とうそぶく。

  • "branch out"＝「（人、企業が）新分野に乗り出す、手を広げる」（extend or expand one's activities or interests in a new direction／to start doing something different from the work or activities that you normally do／to begin to do more different kinds of activities or work／to start to do an activity that you have not done before, especially in your work or business ）支店をbranchと言うのと同じイメージだね。
    • The company is branching out into Europe.
    • Don't be afraid to branch out and try something new.
    • Profits were falling until the bookstore branched out into selling CDs.
    • The company specializes in casual clothing but it is branching out into formal wear.
    • The company branched out into selling insurance.
    • I decided to branch out on my own.
    • I have decided to branch out into some new projects.
    • Business was very good, so I decided to branch out.
