　BBCドラマ「SHERLOCK」エピソード2 "The Blind Banker" より。銀行員ヴァン・クーンと同様の手口で殺されたジャーナリストのルーキスのアパートを調べるホームズ。4Fに位置する部屋でチェーンのかかった玄関ドアを見ながら推理を進める。

• この "for one second" ってなんだろう、一瞬たりとも思わなかった、くらいの意味かなと思って一応調べてみたら、"for a/one moment" という表現を否定文で使うと「全く〜しない」という意味になる、という口語の用法があった。今日の一文はこの moment が second になった用例。（used to say that you did not believe, expect etc something at all／at no time ※at no time:決して〜ない／not at all／certainly not／not even for a short amount of time／never）
  • I don't believe that story for a moment.
  • He didn't fool me for a moment.
  • She had never for one moment imagined that it could happen to her.
  • I did not believe her for one moment.
  • I don't think for a moment that she'll accept, but you can ask her.
  • I don't want you to leave. Not for a moment!
