　amazon.comでお買い物〜♪メリー・ポピンズ40周年記念DVDをとうとう申込み。なんと記念盤2枚組CDも出るというのでこちらも注文。発売日が違うので、まとめて送ってもらうようにするヘルプはないかしら・・・？と探したらこの一文が。

• open order。ニュアンスでわかるけど一応調べてみた。ここでは予約注文や、未出荷の注文のこと。openは「未解決の／未決定の」という意味。イラクに大量破壊兵器がなかったのかも、とパウエルが認めた時のニュースがこんな感じ。
  • Powell said it was an "open question" whether stocks of weapons of mass destruction would be found in Iraq and conceded it was possible Saddam Hussein had none.
• open questionは上のような「未解決の」の意味合いが強いもののほかに「（答えが）決まっていない」＝「Yes/No」で答えが完結しない場合の質問を指すけれど、こちらはすでに日本語で「オープンクエスチョン」ってカタカナ語で普通に使われてるよね。「保留にしておいて」なら「leave it open」。ほほう。open、便利だねえ。
  • Students' choice of major can be kept open until the second year.
  • I'm keeping an open mind about my future.
  • The matter remains an open question.
  • The new rates of pay are open to negotiation.
  • The test results are open to interpretation.（interpretation：解釈、説明）
  • Officers investigating her death are keeping their options open.（態度を保留にしている）
