　BBCドラマ「SHERLOCK」エピソード2 "The Blind Banker" より。親を亡くし、犯罪組織と関わりを持ってしまったスー・リン・ヤオと弟。組織から逃げ出したスー・リンの元に、組織の操り人形となった弟が、ある仕事の協力要請を伝えにやってきた。

• "turn someone away""turn away someone"で、「〜と会わない、〜に対する援助・助けを断る」（to refuse to give someone sympathy, help, or support／to refuse to see or talk to someone, or to consider something）などの意味に。そういえば昔、英会話クラスでこの表現が使えるシチュエーションあったな（その時は知らなかったので別の言い回しをした）。
  • Anyone who comes to us will not be turned away.
  • The insurance company has promised not to turn away its existing customers.
  • She has turned away every opportunity to improve her English in the last ten years.
  • Consumers are turning away from credit cards.
• もっとシンプルに「（人を）（場所に）立ち入らせない」（to refuse to let someone enter a place or join an organization, for example because it is full）という意味もある。満員で特定のスペースに入れないような時にも使う。
  • The show was so popular police had to turn people away.
  • Hundreds of people were turned away from the stadium.
  • They had nowhere to stay so I couldn't turn them away.
  • Thousands of applicants are turned away each year.
  • If anyone comes to the door, just turn them away.
