While I’m trying to get off with Sarah!

SHERLOCK

（僕がサラと「お近づきに」なろうとしている間にってことだ！）
　BBCドラマ「SHERLOCK」エピソード2 "The Blind Banker" より。職場で知り合ったサラとのデートに、事件をひっさげたホームズがついてきてしまったことに腹を立てたワトスン。"You want me to chase some killer while I’m trying to -" と、ホームズに向かって文句を言ってるセリフの流れから。

  • "get off with somebody"は、「異性と性的に親しくなる」という意味（to start a sexual relationship with someone／ to have sex with someone）。辞書には英国英語 informalとの記載あり。このセリフを影でホームズにどなりかけたところへ当の本人のサラがやってきて、かなりバツの悪いワトスンがかわいい＆かわいそう。
    • She spent the whole evening trying to get off with Phil.
    • She found out he'd gotten off with another woman.
    • Linda got off with the ski instructor.
    • She'd got off with some bloke at the party.
