Sherlock sees through everything and everyone in seconds.

 BBCドラマ「SHERLOCK」S1エピソード3 "The Great Game" より。原作では冒険譚を「ストランド」誌に寄稿していた形のワトスン。現代版ジョンはブログでシャーロックの活躍を発表するのだけれど、その内容にシャーロックは不服なようで、記事の内容にケチをつけはじめる。

  • "see through" の形で、「〜の本質を見抜く、見破る、理解する、把握する」という意味になる(to realize that someone is trying to deceive you/to realize the true nature of (someone or something) / to understand or detect the true nature of someone or something)。
  • 進行形では使わない。
    • I saw through his excuses.
    • I could never lie to her because I know she'd see through me straight away.
    • I can't bluff - she'd see right through me.
    • She saw through his lies.
    • I can't lie to her―she'd see right through me.
    • We saw through him from the start.
    • I can see through your little game (= I am aware of the trick you are trying to play on me).
    • I can see through you and all your tricks.
    • This plan is designed to make money for you, not to help people. I can see through it! I'm not a fool!
