　『Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets』（ハリーポッターと秘密の部屋）より。ご主人様の意に反することをするたびに自分を痛めつけてお仕置きをする屋敷しもべ妖精のドビー。ご主人様に内緒でハリーに会いに来たドビーが、そのことで自分に対してお仕置きをしてたら、逆にここに来たことがバレちゃうんじゃないの？と尋ねるハリーに、ドビーはいつでも何かに対して自分にお仕置きをしているので、大丈夫なのだと答える。

• 主語が They なのにlets と三単現の s がついているのは、ドビーの喋り方のクセ。話の中に出てきた人物はすべて、第三者とみなして扱っているのがドビーの喋り方だそう。だから自分のこともずっと「私」じゃなくて「ドビー」と呼ぶ。
• "get on with" には「〜をやり続ける、さっさと進める、どんどん進める」という意味がある（to continue doing something／ to continue doing something, especially after an interruption) 。
• 「さっさとやっちゃって！」という意味で使える"Get on with it!" は、強めの表現のよう。
• 下の例文にもあるけれど、"Get on with your life."という表現がすてき。落ち込んでいる人を励ます時などに使える表現。くじけずに、元気を出して、人生を前向きに進んでね、というニュアンス（to stop thinking or worrying about something bad that happened in the past and start living a normal life again）。
  • I didn't mean to interrupt you. I'll let you get on with your work.
  • You need to stop feeling sorry for yourself and just get on with your life. 　※（=return to doing the things you do in your normal life）
  • This introduction is taking forever. I wish they'd just get on with it. 　※（=stop delaying and get to the interesting or important part）
