- "put oneself in/into a person's shoes" で、「人の身に(立場に)なって考える」という熟語。探したら、"fill a person's shoes"=「人の後任になる」や、"step into a person's shoes"=「人の後がまに座る」など、"a person's shoes"="a person's sutuation"と捉えられる表現が他にも多数。ちなみに本では「人が置かれている困難な状況」と解説されてた。
- Don't be cross with them. Try to put yourself in their shoes (=imagine what it would feel like to be in their situation).
- I wouldn't like to be in your shoes.(君の立場にはなりたくないな。)
- Imagine you were in her shoes.(彼女の立場になってみろよ。)
- if I'd been in your shoes I'd have walked out on him.(walk out on〜:〜を捨てる)
- Anyone in her shoes would have done the same thing.
